Let your dreams begin Shanghai!

Let your dreams begin Shanghai!

Well here it is and another dream bites reality with the next episode of “Adventure Towards Mindfulness – Shanghai”.  After releasing the first video in Koh Samui, I had an idea to turn this into a series featuring people who have exemplified extraordinary abilities to stay in the present moment.

I have always been fascinated with the ability to avoid distractions by controlling one’s emotions and disciplining the mind.  I never knew it was possible until I began attending a Moksha Yoga class in Toronto, Canada.  Now I realize that the mind is like a huge muscle that can be disciplined and trained.

Mindfulness is a way of being able to filter out thoughts that contribute to well-being yet acknowledging the thoughts of disappointment, regret, hurt and anger but instead transition the mindset to re-focus on the things that matter the most, which is the ability to be in the present moment.  By not focusing on the negative thoughts that result in inefficient results.  For example, we are able to strive for more by focusing on the possibilities, the dreams and the visions that we have in front of us.  This requires disregarding the thoughts that distract us away from our true potential.

Yoga is one of those sports or activities, which requires the ability to focus more as the poses become more strenuous and the level of difficulty increases.  The basic story-line is to feature exceptional people who have overcome great physical abilities to focus on the present moment.  What we have now is an ability to channel all that energy into what matters the most.

I am writing the script now and I’ve been fortunate to have been introduced to an amazing yoga instructor in Shanghai, where our next segment will be filmed.  I hope that this video series can combine amazing cinematography with amazing choreography as we journey towards mindfulness.  Perhaps it may inspire others to dive into the unknown and pursue their dreams.

… the award goes to the dreamers

Great stories capture the imagination of others because it feeds off of the perspective of something achievable and dream-able.

Great stories involve one or two great characters and the pursuit of something greater than themselves.  It takes the audience on a journey or a ride to where the full spectrum of emotions are evoked by the audience.  Have you ever felt like Superman, Batman, Forest Gump, Agent 47? In the end, no matter the type or style of storytelling being told, the audience can relate to the character and somehow for the duration of the movie, we can choose to believe the unbelievable.  We choose to connect and see the dream come alive.

A great story makes you want to be dream more, dream bigger, perhaps believe that they do can come true. In the words of Walt Disney, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”  ….the award goes to the dreamers!

The Genie or The Genius?

Have you ever marveled at your own ideas and then said, “Wow this is going to be a great idea! Actually this is a brilliant idea!!” Then what happens after that? Somewhere along, we allow our genius creativity to remain as the genie in the bottle and not to uncover the true potential of that creativity.

That brilliant idea has now become the genie waiting to come out of the bottle and to explode with genius talent, but may be fear, doubt, other people’s opinions may tend to dwarf our abilities and we put the cork back on the top of the bottle.

The irony is that we tend to follow other people’s genius creativity and when it goes viral, we ask ourselves wow they have the greatest luck or an amazing ability.  For these people, what was their purpose or reason behind the masterpiece? Most of them said that they had no idea of the magnitude of their breakthrough.  They just wanted to unleash their creative talents as their personal contributions to the world, not to spark or ignite a mass revolution or global frenzy.

Let’s take for example Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of “Eat, Pray, Love” or J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter and even the veteran Sylvester Stallone, they simply had an idea for a script and began to write and write.  They did not know that their works would of been a viral phenomenon.  Despite the rejections from publishers, they had something to contribute to the world and something to prove to themselves.

So be the genius, create, produce, dream and allow the genie to come out your bottle to achieve more, to be more to bring your dreams alive.  Write your script on paper and produce your stories for the world to see.  Which one would you like to be? The Genie or the Genius? 🙂

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney
